About Me

Sofia Jayne is a Melbourne-based journalist and graduate of RMIT University. She currently works at Schwartz Media as an Editorial and Administrative Assistant and has recently written for The Saturday Paper, exploring how photography is being used to preserve the culture and share the stories of semi-nomadic herder communities.

Sofia is the Youth Editor at Inside Indonesia, an online magazine covering Indonesian society and politics, and has also worked as a reporter for Indonesian TV news program SEA Today. She has interned at The Canberra Times and SBS Audio, where she produced a feature on a domestic violence centre supporting refugee women in Victoria. The piece was translated into Dari and Italian to reach broader communities.

In 2023, Sofia led The Swanston Gazette, RMIT’s independent student publication, where she managed a team of contributors, oversaw website operations, and produced two print editions. During the same year, she took part in the ACICIS Journalism Professional Practicum in Jakarta, interning with Amnesty International Indonesia and gaining deeper insights into global human rights issues.

Sofia is passionate about telling underreported stories, particularly those affecting women and marginalised communities. She brings a strong narrative voice and a human-centred approach to complex political and social issues, with aspirations to pursue a career in international reporting and foreign correspondence.
